Local know-how
Siding installation in Ohio
Beyond Ohio’s big metros, the state is full of small cities, county seats and farm country – Mansfield and Ashland in north-central Ohio, Zanesville and Coshocton in the southeast hills, Steubenville along the Ohio River and Celina near Grand Lake St. Marys. Many homes here are older frame houses and farmhouses due for new siding.
Ohio winters, spring storms and river-valley humidity wear down aluminum, wood and early vinyl. Homeowners typically replace it with vinyl or insulated vinyl, while fiber cement and board and batten are popular on farmhouses and larger rural homes.
Ohio does not license siding contractors statewide, but many cities require local registration and a building permit, so ask your contractor what applies. For our main Ohio regions see Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton and Akron & Canton.
Ohio has no statewide siding license, and permit rules differ from city to city: the City of Columbus requires a building permit for siding replacement, the City of Cleveland requires a permit plus Landmarks Commission review, and many smaller towns require only contractor registration. Our Ohio siding cost guide lists published prices for Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton.
